Pregnancy Weight

A lot of people are commenting about Jessica Simpson’s weight as she ends her pregnancy.  And, most of those comments are not very nice.  One doctor (not her’s) even called her a porker (How PROFESSIONAL btw!). ARTICLE on ABCnews.com

I am not a Jessica Simpson fan at all.  I don’t like her music (I actually don’t know any of it) and she has annoyed me since her stupid show on MTV.

However, I feel like I actually do need to defend her weight gain.  Why?  Because I had the same problems during my pregnancy.  My appetite never changed from before I was pregnant, and I walked every single day that it didn’t rain.  However, I still ended up gaining 65 pounds.  My doctors were upset and kept telling me that I had to watch my weight.  But, what was I supposed to do.  I couldn’t stop eating completely or go on a diet.  That’s not good for the baby.  I was exercising.  In fact, I taught throughout my pregnancy, and I am definitely a pacer when I teach.  When the weather got bad, towards the end, I was walking in the malls for hours on end.  Slowly, but I was still walking.

There are, despite people’s disbelief, those women that simply put on a lot of weight during pregnancy.  For me, personally, most of the weight that I gained was water.  It simply wouldn’t leave, despite how much I exercised or how much I peed.  I had no health issues with my pregnancy.  No diabetes, no high blood pressure, nothing.  I just simply packed on water weight.  Here’s some pictures of my weight gain:

End of August, so almost 6 months.

End of September, so almost 7 months

End of October, so almost 8 months (and don't my FIFs look awesome, btw)

End of November, so just about 9 months

2 hours post-partum (HUGELY swollon from iv fluids!)

By three months postpartum, I was down to my pre-pregnancy weight.  Am I happy with that weight, of course not.  But, it’s right where I was before Charlie was born.  It’s not all in the same places, obviously, and I don’t look the same, but my weight is completely unchanged.

So, I guess what I’m saying is, not all pregnant women can be glamorous in their weight gain (my friend Sonya is a noteable exception!  She looks amazing at about 27 weeks!), but it doesn’t mean that they are lazy or not being healthy.  Everyone gains weight differently, so leave them alone!

Egg Hunt and Easter

Good Morning!  I hope everyone had a great  holiday weekend (or spring weekend if you didn’t have a holiday to celebrate!)

Last week Charlie had an Easter egg hunt and daycare.  She had a great time.  The whole thing took maybe 5 minutes, but it sure was fun to watch.

There were enough eggs for each child to get one egg, but of course, Charlie found two.

Then, she didn’t want to give one up to poor little Bella that didn’t find one.

But, in the end, she did share, and put her egg in her bag to go home.

Charlie’s Easter basket was brought nice and early by the Easter Bunny (and if you’re interested the bunny shops at Pottery Barn Kids and bought the personalized Peter Rabbit basket liner – He’s a fan of Beatrix Potter, you know!).

Apparently the one that hops down our street is fond of books, because there were 10 of them in her basket, including a great big sticker book.  You know, because the Easter Bunny knows that Charlie likes stickers.  He also knows how much she loves Mickey and how good the dollar bins at Target are for board books.

Charlie was supposed to look like this for church and our dinner at a nice Italian restaurant in Collingswood (to accomodate my dad’s wheelchair).

Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with pneumonia on Saturday, so no going out for us.  Instead, Easter looked like this

and like this

A rare Charlie and Toby picture 🙂

All in all, considering how sick Charlie was, it actually was a pretty nice day.

The Boys of Summer Are Back

image

(This picture is from opening day last year.  Charlie has a Phillies shirt on today, but she’s miserable from teething and I couldn’t get a picture.  This one will have to suffice.)

It’s Baseball Season!

WooHoo!

Our Phillies are opening up the season out of town in Pittsburgh, so no opening day game for us.  Our first game isn’t for another week and a half, but I can’t wait.

Let’s Go Phils!

I Must Be Missing Something

Did anybody else read this article?

Is she insane?  Does she really believe she’s beautiful?  I think she’s pretty darn average.  Must be her own idiocy that makes her believe that she’s gorgeous.

Most women I know are not jealous of beautiful women.  We don’t make side comments about women that are beautiful.  We make side comments about women who are snobs or bitches.  I can pretty much guarantee that we’d be talking about this woman behind her back.

But beautiful women who are genuinely kind and sincere?  We are definitely more likely to admire them than to be jealous of them.

On second thought, maybe I am a little jealous.  Living in your own delusional world must be awesome, and I wish that I, too, could forsake reality and live in delusion land occasionally.

Memories of Italy

A few years ago (omg – 6 years ago now!), John and I had the opportunity to go on a trip to Italy.  We went with family and the trip was part of a tour group that was traveling through Naples, the Amalfi Coast, and Rome.

Yesterday, John brought up one of the funnier stories from the trip.  There was an older woman, traveling alone, in our group.  She was a bit kooky, and we think she may have had Tourette’s as she had some spastic motions, would mumble under her breath, and would interject things at inappropriate times.  She was very nice though.

On our first morning getting on the tour bus, our guide was teaching us a little bit of Italian.

Buongiorno!  Come stai?
Good morning!  How are you?

The correct response was

No che male, or not too bad.

So she said she wanted everyone to respond loudly when she prompted us.

Buongiorno!  Come stai?

We all replied “No che male!”

Except for the previously mentioned woman.  She replied with, “Aunt Jemima!”

We have’t been able to look at fake syrup the same way since!
