State of Our Sicknesses

It smells like eucalyptus in the house. Allie is so congested and unfortunately, the mucus dripping down her throat causes her to gag, which means, YAY, mucusy vomit.

We’re in for a snowstorm today and everything is closing down early (prediction of 6-12″). Instead of dealing with two kids in the car in the snowstorm, I elected to keep Charlie home for today. If you’re keeping count, that means she’s been away from school for 12 days. She needs to go back to get rid of some energy. Hopefully school isn’t cancelled tomorrow.

So Not Ready for the Snow

See that picture that I just posted?  Notice the white circles that I put around things on the windshield?  What did I circle?  Those are big old snowflakes.  Snowflakes!  On November 12!  What in the world?  It feels like autumn just got here and we’re already settling in for winter.  Yuck!  I am not ready for snow.  When will I be ready for snow?  Well, a covering on the morning of December 25 would be nice, but not before.

Fortunately, we’re just getting flurries.  The ground is too warm for any of this to stick.  Still, the commute was bad because give us any sort of precipitation and people suddenly forget how to drive their cars.  Charlie was excited to see the snow, but not excited when she found out that it meant she had to wear her winter coat.  Hopefully, once winter really sets in, you know, in January or February, we’ll get some snow for her to play in since the last two years have been a bust.

A Mother’s Plea to Mother Nature

Dear Mother Nature,

What’s up this winter?  Well, I guess, what’s been up the past two winters?  I mean the winter of 2011 was pretty nasty, with two snowstorms over 15″.  But, to then put us on a snow hiatus?  Not really cool.

You’ve been messing with us.  Giving us a lot of dustings and scant snow coverings.  All pretty negligible amounts of accumulation.  Last Friday we were supposed to get anywhere from 1-7 inches.  We got less than a half inch.  And last night, they were calling for 1-3.  We got nothing (Here’s some visual proof.  It’s 50 degrees a sunny this Valentine’s Day!)

So, here’s my request, Mother Nature.  My daughter would love to have some snow.  At least enough to make a few snowballs or to go sledding down our front hill (it’s a small hill, I promise you).  Would that be too hard?  Would it be possible?  We’d really appreciate it.
